Description
Following up on the magic they created with 2001's eye-popping Moulin Rouge, director Baz Luhrman and Oscar®-winner Nicole Kidman (Best Actress 2002 for The Hours) reunite for this epic that pays homage to their, and co-star Hugh Jackman's, homeland. In the tradition of such visually-resplendant motion pictures as Gone With the Wind, Doctor Zchivago and The English Patient, this gorgeously photographed and costumed epic takes the audience away on a journey they'll not soon forget. Needless to say, Kidman and Jackman do not disappoint, even when they're just standing still. The story introduces us to Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman), a prim and proper Englishwoman who journeys to Australia shortly before World War II reaches the country's shores. She is determined to have her estranged husband sell his cattle ranch to a monopoly-craving businessman named King Carney (Bryan Brown of F/X and The Thorn Birds), but when she arrives, it's too late, as her husband is dead. English cattle barons try and drive her off the land, but she gets the help of a rough and tumble cattle driver named Drover (fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman of X-Men) to help her drive 2000 cattle across some of the most unforgiving land in the country. Once there, they still have to face bombings by Japanese forces that had just recently attacked Pearl Harbor. But they also still have each other. Get swept up in the adventure, the romance, the experience that is Austrailia.
